Your first week
Start with one goal, break it into three or four checkpoints, and put two tasks in front of you for this week. That is the whole system.
How to do it
- Open Templates and pick something close to what you are doing. It creates a real goal you can edit, which beats staring at an empty page.
- Cut anything in it you do not actually intend to do. A plan you have trimmed is one you believe.
- Add two tasks with dates in the next seven days. Not ten. Two.
- Come back on Friday and run the weekly review.

Questions
-
How many goals should I have?
Three or four active at once, at most. The free plan caps you at three deliberately, because the failure mode of a planning tool is a list of twenty things nobody is working on.
-
Do I have to use every part of it?
No. Plenty of people use goals and tasks and never touch habits or the journal. Nothing is broken by leaving a section empty.
